Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the breast. It can start in one or both breasts. Breast cancers can start from different parts of the breast, can spread when the cancer cells get into the blood or lymph system and then are carried to other parts of the body. In the US in 2023, there are predicted 353,510 new cases of breast cancer and 43,700 deaths. Breast cancer makes up around 1 in 3 of all new cases in females every year. The average age of getting breast cancer is 62 years old. Most women that get breast cancer are 45 and above. The average risk for a woman in the United States for developing breast cancer is 1 in 8. The average age of getting breast cancer for black women is lower, 60 years while for white women is 63 years old.
